SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Here you can read about the sustainable materials we offer here at Nelly.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is a viscose fiber produced from natural and renewable raw material form trees. All cellulose comes from certified or sustainably grown forests. The production takes place in a closed system where the amount of chemicals is considerably lower than with traditional viscose.

Furthermore, these chemicals are in large part reused. This technology has less carbon emission than conventional viscose. The fiber is certified according to the official EU environment certification, EU Ecolabel. This label is awarded to products with a substantially lower impact on the environment during their entire life cycle. The fiber is also traceable from raw material to end product. ECOVERO™ is a registered trademark created by Lenzing.

TENCEL™ MODAL™

TENCEL™ MODAL™ is a viscose fiber produced from natural and renewable raw material from trees. All cellulose comes from certified or sustainably grown beech forests. The production takes place in a closed system where the amount of chemicals is considerably lower than with traditional viscose. The fiber is certified according to the official EU environment certification, EU Ecolabel. This label is awarded to products with a substantially lower impact on the environment during their entire life cycle. TENCEL™ is the trademark for Lenzing’s variants of the fibers Modal and Lyocell.

TENCEL™ LYOCELL™

TENCEL™ LYOCELL™ is a cellulose fiber produced from natural and renewable raw material from trees. All cellulose comes from certified or sustainably grown forests. The fiber is won from a circular system where 99% of the solvent used is recycled.

Unlike LENZING™ ECOVERO™ and TENCEL™ MODAL™, the solvent is not chemical in origin but made from water. The fiber is certified according to the official EU environment certification, EU Ecolabel. This label is awarded to products with a substantially lower impact on the environment during their entire life cycle. TENCEL™ is the trademark for Lenzing’s variants of the fibers Modal and Lyocell.

Recycled Cotton

Cotton is a material that has a number of challenges. Conventional cultivation requires large quantities of water and pesticides. Organic cotton is grown without using chemical pesticides or fertilizer and it is free from genetically modified seeds.

Organic cotton is not harmful to the earth like conventional cotton, and the organic production ensures that the soil can still be used for other crops as well. Organic cotton is free from toxic chemicals which results in a better work environment for the farmers. Not using artificial pesticides or fertilizers means the energy needed to produce them is not necessary. Another advantage is that organic cotton is in large part watered by rain, which means less watering than conventional cotton. Today, less than 1% of the world’s cotton is produced organically.

Recycled Cotton

Recycled cotton is made from leftovers from the cutting process or from used textiles that have been respun into new material. To retain its strength, recycled cotton is blended with new cotton or other materials. By using recycled cotton, the usage of water, arable land and chemicals are all reduced, resulting in a smaller climate footprint.

Recycled Polyamide

Recycled polyamide is made from leftover material from the production of things like fishnets and waste material from factories. Polyamide is an oil-based synthetic fiber. The quality of the fiber is just as good as newly produced polyamide. By using recycled polyamide, fewer of the earth’s resources are used, which reduces pollution and energy usage in the production process.

Recycled Polyester

Recycled polyester is made from PET-bottles and other previously used polyester products. By using recycled polyester, no new oil production is required. This means less energy, water and waste, and a smaller climate footprint.

BCI

Better Cotton means responsibly grown cotton, which is to say cotton grown in accordance with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) guidelines. BCI is an organization that works towards improving cotton production globally.

To date, they have instructed over 2 million agriculturists in five continents to make their production more sustainable. Nelly is a proud member of BCI and works actively towards increasing the share of more sustainable cotton.

Better Cotton is not physically traceable in the end product. However, every producer benefits equivalent to volumes that we use in our selection.
